NAIL HYGIENE



 
1.    Definition
· Nail is composed mainly of keratin, the same protein in skin and hair.
· Nail hygiene is essential to prevent the development and spread of infection. They are also displayed in public at all times, so can be representative of our over all health, well-being and personal hygiene methods.
· Nails are made up of layers of protein called keratin and can be indicative of our general health. They grow on average 1 mm per week, unless there are dietary issues or medical conditions that prevent this.
2.    Purpose a nail
· To protect the ends of our fingers .
· Toes from trauma .
· To help pick things up.
· To helps catch things up.
3.    Conditions That Can Affect The Health of Our Nails :
· Brittle Nails
· Fungal Infections
· Loose Skins
· White Spots
· Splits or Ridges
· Manicuring
4.    How  to cut nails ?
1)    Pick a sharp nail clippers to get perfect results. Blunt scissors will make the end of uneven nails. Avoid biting your nails, because bad habits will ruin your nails.
2)   Before cutting the nails, first soak your fingers in warm water for 10 minutes. This serves to make the nails softer and easier to cut.
3)   In order to shape the nails look beautiful, cut to the shape of your nails curved direction.
4)    Avoid exciting when not clipped nails perfectly. Fingers and nails could get hurt if you do.
5)   Do not cut the nails too short. Because the layer of skin beneath the nail was very fragile. If not protected, the coating will be easily irritated. In addition, the shape will not be beautiful when the nail grows back.
6)    After cutting the nails, trim the ends of the rough and sharp nails using a nail file.
7)    Last but not least, use a nail vitamins to maintain healthy nails.
5.    To Avoid The Spread of Germs and Nail Infections:
· Keep nails short and trim them often.
· Scrub the underside of nails with soap and water or a nail brush every time you wash your hands.
· Clean any nail grooming tools before use.
· In commercial settings such as nail salons , sterilize nail grooming tools before use.
· Avoid bitting or chewing nails.
· Avoid cutting cuticles, as they act as barriers to prevent infection.
6.    To Keep Fingernails Looking Their Best:
· Keep fingernails dry and clean. This prevents bacteria from growing under your fingernails. Repeated or prolonged contact with water can contribute to split fingernails. Wear cotton-lined rubber gloves when washing dishes, cleaning or using harsh chemicals.
· Practice good nail hygiene. Use a sharp manicure scissors or clippers. Trim your nails straight across, then round the tips in a gentle curve.
· Use moisturizer. When you use hand lotion, rub the lotion into your fingernails and cuticles, too.
· Apply a protective layer. Applying a nail hardener might help strengthen nails.
· Ask your doctor about biotin. Some research suggests that the nutritional supplement biotin might help strengthen weak or brittle fingernails.

· Keep nails trim but don’t cut nails shorter than skin level.
